Getting there

Chest X-ray is done and new meds are going so I'm hoping to be back on regular schedule tomorrow. The new inhaler seems to be making a difference - the medication lasts longer so I only have to take it twice a day and it opens up my lungs longer. That's a relief. On Sunday I was watching the clock and counting down to the next time I could take a puff of the other stuff. I started the new round of antibiotics so I'm hoping this kicks it. I'm resting this afternoon and then back to work tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Know your limits

As I enter my 3rd week of my 40's, I continue to learn life lessons...and for once, I'm listening. I've been "not well" since about January 5. Unlike my "normal self", I realized something wasn't right and went to the doctor pretty quickly. I received a preliminary diagnosis of "bronchitis, possibly pneumonia" (I guess they can't be sure it's pneumonia without an X-ray) and was told if I didn't feel better I needed to come back and they would schedule a chest X-ray. I was prescribed a 5 day antibiotic pack and an inhaler. A couple of days later I still felt icky so I scheduled another appointment to be checked. He listened to my lungs and went ahead and scheduled the chest X-ray too. The results came back the next day and he called and confirmed that I, in fact, had pneumonia. Since that time I've never felt great but have had some days where I felt better than others. Don't get me wrong - I'm not huddled in bed and not making an effort to move around, etc. Other than the first few days, when I had fever and body aches, I haven't felt horribly sick. My temp went completely away at the end of the first week but truly only missed one day of work. I'm learning this is one of the bad things about pneumonia - you know you're sick but you think you can handle it so you keep pushing and then it sneaks up on you and gets worse.  I haven't spiked another temperature - I think that's a good sign - but my breathing, coughing and general lung discomfort are lingering, if not worsening. I get the message! I actually took a sick day. I did some emails this morning but after I dropped the kids off (and unsuccessfully tried to reach the dr office) I made a couple of calls then went to sleep. I'm up and getting ready to eat something but, as well as I slept, my body is telling me I needed the rest.  I GIVE! I'm resting AND I finally was able to reach someone @ the dr office and I have an appointment at 4:20 today. I'm hoping for meds that work and for them to tell me it just takes a while to recover. I'm not letting it go, friends. I'm staying on top of it until I'm better. I may have to take it easy (which is hard for me) but I have my wonderful husband and family so we'll be ok. I'll update later.
Love to all

Life

If you know me well enough to have suffered through one of my philosophical ramblings about putting things in perspective, then you've heard me say that life has a way of smacking me in the back of the head from time to time. It seems to happen just when I start feeling a little to sorry for myself - "oh I haven't been feeling good" "I'm having a hard time at work", this is bad, that is worse - just when I dangle on the edge of self pity, something happens to jolt me back to reality. Things aren't so bad YOU IDIOT! You know this. You have experienced worse than this and there are people out there who are going through things which are much worse than you can imagine. I'm reminded to count my blessings, be happy I have a job that I essentially enjoy, I have co-workers I adore, I have a wonderful husband I love with all my heart - he's good to me and he's an unbelievable father. We have seen our share of heartbreak but we have two beautiful children we were told we'd never have...the list goes on and on. I accept the fact that we will all have bad days - some much worse than others but as long as we're here we just need to remind ourselves that life is short - too short to stress out of things we have no control over.
Now on to a quiet weekend with my little family - i plan to take time to relax and (hopefully) recover.
Love to all!

Welcome to 40!

I made it!!! Yay!!!
Yesterday I celebrated (sort of) my 40th birthday. I don't feel any different than I did when I was 39 so don't ask how it feels. ha ha! I'm trying to recover from a little bug and I'm on my way but other than that, I'm good.

It's so easy to fall back into old habits...

In my case, it's posting on Facebook instead of the blog. GEESH!!! Since my last post, everyone healed up and then last week we went through a double round (meaning both kids) of annual visits to the pediatrician (shots) and a double round of the stomach bug from H#$%. I'm happy to report that all have recovered and we're back to normal.
I have some chores to do but I'll be back to post later.
